Tomorrow I get to go try and manipulate a JJ Taylor lock. Ive done many many sargent and greanleaf/laguard locks without problems but the 2 jj Taylors ive tried before I was unable to get. But i never let an opportunity pass me by.
Anyone have any tips with manipulating these locks?

Do you need pictures of the inside or do you know what you are working with? I have one on hand I could take any pics of that you need.

So it turns out its a diebold 4 wheel lock
According to the savta information its possible to manipulate. I was able to get the 4th number before I had to leave.. it sure doesn't give up numbers as easily as a laguard or S&G. Make you appreciate 3 wheel locks.
The owner had cut off the hinges, tried to drill in 1 spot and the handle to retract the bolt is broken off..
Going to give it another go in a week or 2...

Geez, lol.... sounds like you're lucky there's even a dial left on there to work with. Ha!

Sorry I have nothing helpful to offer. But I am curious - where's the CP's on that one?

Its a roller lock so There are 3 contact points, you ignore the second contact point and only take readings from 1 and 3.

If i recall 1 and 3 were at 90 and 10

Thanks! I always like to hear about & gather info on locks I have yet to encounter.

You talkin' bout the bolt type? A roller bolt?

So this is interesting. Given the container & handle, I was thinking along the lines of a
Diebold/Eagle 171 lock, or maybe a Peerless. But obviously, you catching more than
than 2 CP's suggests otherwise. What lock exactly is it you believe you have there?

If you were able to catch at least one gate... that's promising.
I'd say you've a pretty good shot at an opening. I'm rootin' for ya!

Oldfast, here is some pics of a J&J Taylor lock. They made them themselves instead of using a premade IIRC.

Front of the dial

Change index to the right instead of left like most

Yes that's what's definitely in there. I can always feel 3 contact points on these locks. The second point being very subtle but I have a sensitive touch..

Here is what I mean... Sorry for the confusion

With these locks you ignore the left contact point #1..

Actually come to think of it I could probably try ignoring the middle contact point.. Or graphing all 3 contacts point..but I've moved on from graphing but would be willing to pull out the graph paper to finally get one of these opened... Frustrating to go from 15-30 minute openings to complete failure!
