missing Bolt BB spring S&G 6700, shifted fence?

Hi Hello
I recently (somewhat crudely) cut away the case on one of my S&G 6700 locks
(no luck on finding the virtual wheel-pak I previously posted about)

Its very helpful I now can finally understand/see the "Shortcut" for dialing
1&2A ,W3=K. Its a Great help!

BUT! (Doah!) during the disassembly of the 6700 wheel-pak and bolt
mechanism, it seems the spring must have shot out
(as did the ball bearing which I did recover)

BUT... I can't find the BB spring
(if it was ever there, this was an EBAY Deal)

The lock functions without it (combo will correctly retract the bolt)
However it seems that the fence is shifted towards W3,
and it actually doesn't reach/touch the outermost disk on W1!
the end of the fence only reaches about halfway across W1.

(its almost like an exageration of the known W3 flaw due to spring on that side of lever)
that causes W3 to indicate first?

When I disassembled I was so careful around the wheel-pak parts
I did not pay enough attention to the Bolt, lever, BBearing and springs
So now as I re-read the Great Pictorial Posting by GWiens2001 and see the spring and BB

So I know its missing, have even found a part number (6740-102-002-0ZD) but not a source for it
I'd gladly pay + shipping if someone has a spare one they wouldn't mind sharing?

I suppose I could eventually try a reformed ballpoint pen spring)
but it appears to be short length with a lot of tension.

Like I've said the lock still seems to basically function well but I have not seen much indication
or signatures during my very amateurish manipulation of the now mounted cutaway
(hey is that "a new added security feature?" <BG>

I am really surprised at the amount of lateral fence shift without this spring.
but I guess the spring and BB normally push the bolt, lever and fence)
towards W1 (there is some play in my bolt now it does move the fence closer)

I've got a pic of the fence in question
I will try to reduce its size b4 sending
If I can't send the pic I'll try again

thanks in advance for your input

Re: missing Bolt BB spring S&G 6700, shifted fence?

I'm trying to add some images of my cutaway 6700.

In one pic you can see the mount which was made from some free (Home Depot) floor laminate samples
They are a good size but I did cut down the dial shaft for the 3/4" thickness.
You can see I drilled a hole to hold the setting key, and I also added a 0.1 division vernier scale.

The second picture shows the fence shifted about 1/2 the width of W1
I did partially correct this by readjusting the lever sping it was pinched by the lever
I still have some play in the bolt because of the missing BB spring (mentioned in my 1st post)
I'm Still looking for a source if anyone knows of one?

If I can find a replacement spring I'll disassemble the wheel pak again and clean up the
crude hacksaw cuts I made while cutting away the case. (I have a Dremel now)

As I said the lock still opens perfectly forward (and with corrected reverse dialing)
I found the cutaway really does help you to understand and anticipate wheels picking up,
I would suggest finding a no frills lock on Ebay and making your own.
The actual cutting is fairly simple and I've learned more from my mistakes

Go For it

I have never seen a drive cam like that before. Your lever should be on the inside of it, not the outside like you have it.

Re: missing Bolt BB spring S&G 6700, shifted fence?

Hi
Sorry my pic was not very clear,
The cam itself is unusual in that its entirely black (believe its enameled brass)
In the original the lever nose is fully seated into the cam dip (correct combo entered and ready to drag the bolt)
its not on either side of the cam its right on it (the black line I had drawn on the end of the shaft doesn't help either
Here's another pic with the latch nose riding up on the cam (I removed the sharpee black line also)
Its really not behind the cam (I know that can happen when you first screw down the cam on the shaft)

Hope thats clearer
Thanks for answering

Oh derp, now I feel like an idiot lol.

I have a bunch of the Liberty/S&G locks coming so I can compare them once they arrive.

Re: missing Bolt BB spring S&G 6700, shifted fence?

Hey I'd like to hear about them when you get them
This particular lock was an Ebay purchase with a somewhat flimsy "cheapo" dial
and no torsion adjustment screw.

I lost the label but believe its an S&G (6741?)
These lower cost and tolerance models also have silver metal lever and bolt (not brass) and as the you have seen a black cam
This was fine for a cutaway but I have some really nice looking 6730, mounted locks with the "Smokey Finish Peekabo dial"
(I think it was also a Liberty, not sure, they are in Tucson, I'm in New York for summer)

I'm just curious if this black cam was an after market replacement or an S&G part?,
someone had a recent post here on different types of Cams on the S&Gs

I still havent found a source for a replacement Bolt spring
I still want to see if that shifts my fence further over W1

Thanks for your input

Thanks for the website help!
I went to lockmasters.com and found the part listed

Only problem might be is they require some type of accredation membership.
Which as a retired and rank beginner Sport/Hobbyist I don't have.
I'll try and call them Monday, Maybe they make some exceptions
Its just a spring after all
Thanks again

If you have no luck with that tomorrow, I could send you one if you'd like.
If you're interested, send me a private message with an address and I'll
get it out as soon as I can. Probably just use an envelope - no charge.

Thanks alot Oldfast
Unfortunately Lockmasters wouldn't sell parts to an individual afterall.
Like to take you up on that offer if its still available,
I'll try to send you my email via pm
If I can manage to do that on this BBS

Thanks Again
