S and G Drive Cams

I've been mounting some newly purchased locks, both claim to be 6730s.
The Drive Cams are different.?
Does this matter?
Whats the "Deal"??!
The area where the lever nose drops in, seems to be the big difference.
One has a 3/8 inch flat spot at the bottom. The other is shaped like the nose of the lever.
Is one better than the other? Replacement parts?
Parts of another lock?

Glad to hear that!

As to the cams... I've seen and experienced both. They both work just fine.
In terms of manipulation they're fairly similar too. Naturally the more gradual
slope on the one requires a lighter touch. But again, not all too different.

I'm not sure why the difference though. I too am curious what others will say.

Re: S and G Drive Cams

Black or brown cams seem to be found on 6741 model locks.
Tried looking at Sargent Greenleaf parts catalog to find different cams and cam numbers.?
Didn't succeed.
So now we have the:
Narrow cam (original)
Wide cam (Due to flat area at bottom of drop in)
Brown cam (color)

The contact points on the wide cam start outside of the Forbidden zone.?
Have been wondering if the Forbidden zone should be adjusted? Or if it is needed.?
I'm starting to think the large flat spot on the "wide cam" allows the nose of the lever to slide under the lever stop, whereby nullifying the need for a forbidden zone.(Prevents Lever Lock)
Which would allow you full range of possible combinations.?

The numbers on the label(6730) in many cases include a Dash then another number or letter.(i.e) 6730-A or 6730-135.
Perhaps the information after the lock model # is the Cam style?
Used to think it was the Dial type and Dial ring style. This does not appear to hold true.

Any ideas, on where I could find out more information about cams is appreciated.
Thanks

Now that's an interesting thought. I gave it a try though and that's not the case.

I have a couple locks with the wide gate on the drive cam. Setting a combo within the
forbidden zone still produced a lockout. If you really study the mechanics of it you'll
see the lockout has nothing to do with the lever stop. Instead, it's actually w3's gate
that catches and traps the fence, not allowing it to be lifted out of the wheel pack.

haha. No problem. And I didn't think it was all that crazy really.

I was actually on-board with ya for a minute there. But I have a hard time
visualizing things. So it wasn't until I had one in my hand and gave it a try.

Re: S and G Drive Cams

Just an uneducated couple of guesses. 1. anti-manipulation feature? 2. allows drop in at a faster rotation speed? I'm leaning towards guess number 2.

diy.
