I will give that a try, will post pictures tomorrow

Edit: will I need to degrease first? Or will the vinegar remove the grease too?

Re: Old Yale safe lock(and safe)

Soaked the brass parts in 50/50 vinegar/water for a few hours, lightly oiled and reassembled here are results, picture doesn't justify it as well I would have liked but I am impressed with the results, now just to figure out how to straighten the spindle, from one side of the dial to the other its probably an 1/8th inch off

Re: Old Yale safe lock(and safe)

Is the spindle bent right at the dial? If so you would have to put it in a vice or similar and try to bend it back.

It seems to be, I'm gonna chuck it up in my lathe and check it with a dial indicator to see how bad it is, then I'll see what I have to do to fix it

Re: Old Yale safe lock(and safe)

Just put the spindle on a table or counter and slowly roll it back and forth to see exactly where it is bent.

Re: Old Yale safe lock(and safe)

Now I set a new combination and I have noticed that it doesn't always work, when it has failed I disassembled and examined where the gates were sitting and when it fails the seem to be a few numbers off, and sometimes it dials perfectly, could sticking flys cause this?
